There are various ways we can damage our hair, and inadvertently then, causing hair loss, breakage, and poor texture. Some hair styles may involve pulling and tugging, a lot in fact. Often, hairstyles can also result in receding hair lines that have you rushing to a dermatologist then.

Moreover, heat also damages the hair proteins. The various products that are used for styling cause the buildup on the scalp, that also affect the health of your hair and scalp.

Change the hair styles

You need to make better hair styling choices. While of course, you can try your favorite hairstyles once in a blue moon, but don’t make a habit of them.

Some hairstyles to avoid include tight high ponies, tight braids, especially those at the crown, dreadlocks, corn rows, weaves, etc. Moreover, do not style your hair when they are wet; strands that have absorbed water are more delicate, and tugging at them can then lead to their breakage as well.

Don’t make the same hairstyles repeatedly

When you make the same hair style repeatedly, tugging the hair at the same angles over and over again, it increases the propensity towards hair damage. Naturally, if one point gets repeated trauma, it is more likely to sustain damaged.

So, try to change your hairstyle. It will also help you have a changed appearance as well.

Do not overbrush your hair

The 100-stroke rule to brushing your hair has been debunked. You should not over-brush your hair, as that can also cause them to become damaged.

Conversely, do not forgo brushing altogether. Not only does it prevent tangles which can cause hair damage but brushing also helps in promoting blood flow to the scalp. It also aids in distributing hair oils as well.

Give your hair nutrients

If your hair are vulnerable to begin with, then it is more likely that the hair styles will cause them much damage. One such nutrient is iron; lack of iron is known as iron-deficiency anemia. Iron helps in transport of oxygen, which is required for the cells to survive.

Dearth of iron can lead to hair loss. So, make sure that your iron levels are sufficient. Women are more likely to suffer from iron deficiency, so if you are experiencing fatigue, dizziness, etc., then you should talk to your doctor about it.

Similarly, zinc is also required for to keep your hair and nails healthy. While a healthy, balanced diet can help you have the nutrients in adequate quantity, but you can also talk to your doctor about getting supplements as well.

Make them lose

No one is asking you to forgo the braids and buns that you like, life otherwise would really become boring, but include the key component of making them lose. A light bend does not impose much on the hair strand.

Also, when making braids, try to take thicker ones so that the individual strand does not have to take a lot of tension.
